The city of San Antonio will celebrate a day of family fitness with Siclovía 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 27.

Sponsored by the YMCA, the event will close a 5-mile stretch of road starting at Alamo Plaza and ending at Mahncke Park on Broadway.

The event started in Bogota, Colombia, in 1974 as Ciclovía, opening city streets to bicyclists and pedestrians on a periodic basis.

The event includes a Reclovía with events in yoga, cardio kickboxing and many other activities for the family.

The events are spread out in six different locations along the 5-mile stretch.

More than 65,000 participants attended Siclovía last year, and Mayor Julian Castro and David Robinson have been guest speakers.

“We’re thinking about 75,00 this year.” Laura Waldrum, director of marketing and public relations at YMCA of Greater San Antonio, said.
