Parking decals are no longer required to park on any of campuses of the Alamo Colleges.

Students pay a $25 campus access fee included with tuition entitling them to park in any of the designated student parking lots or parking garages.

They also can obtain a VIA bus pass for the semester.

Students may request a VIA bus pass in the business office in Room 201 of Fletcher Administration Center with a valid student ID.

Brenda Gonzales, accounting clerk in the business office and accounting sophomore said faculty and staff are required to have a parking decal on their vehicles, although the district is not issuing decals for 2014-15. Faculty and staff pay a $50 fee for the parking pass, which is deducted from their paycheck.

Returning faculty and staff are required to use the 2013-14 parking decal.

Deputy Chief Joe Pabon of district police said there is no system to identify students from non-students so police will only ticket vehicles parked in the faculty parking without a decal or vehicles parked in designated areas.

“As long as they are not parked in the Tobin parking or designated areas we will not ticket them,” Pabon said.

Pabon said identifying students from non-students is an issue they are trying to work out. He said students would not be ticketed for parking in any of the 160 designated retail parking spots on the first floor of the Tobin garage.

Pabon said any vehicles parked in the fourth and fifth floor of the new garage without a designated decal for Tobin Lofts residents will be ticketed. He

said parking violations are $16 and can be paid in the business office.

Pabon said police use a system to check license plates to find out who owns the vehicle registration, and then they go into Banner to match the name with a student.

He said if that system is not efficient, there are video surveillance cameras that should be working soon in the two garages.

Eddie Chozet, community assistant at Tobin Lofts, said Tobin Loft residents who are students have the option to reserve one of the 552 parking spaces on the fourth and fifth floors of the new garage by paying a $150 fee for a parking permit for the year. Tobin Loft residents who are not students at this college must pay $200 to reserve a spot.

“It’s not required, but we’re not responsible for towing or tickets,” Chozet said.

Chozet said parking passes can be purchased online at the Tobin Lofts website and picked up at the Tobin Lofts leasing office with a receipt.
