The district board of trustees is scheduled to vote on a lease for a black box theater in Tobin Lofts for use by students of this college.
Janel Santos, Alamo Community College District administrative assistant for special projects, sent an email Friday with notification of the special board meeting for 6 p.m. today at the George E. Killen Community and Education Service Center, 201 W. Sheridan.
According to the meeting agenda on the district website, the lease would be for the media room in Tobin Lofts, a 1,345-square-foot area, for $16,974 a year.
The coordinator of the theater program at this college, Paula Rodriguez, said it would not be just for drama majors at this college, but for any productions, lectures or speakers at this college.
John Strybos, associate vice chancellor of facilities, and Diane E. Snyder, vice chancellor for finance and administration, worked on the minute order that will be presented to the board tonight.
Strybos and Snyder were not available to answer questions.
Board liaison Sandra Mora said she has no explanation for why the meeting was called last minute but the board was within their right to call a meeting 72 hours beforehand.
In the summer the board approved a welcome center for this college in Tobin requiring 7,000 square feet of space and $88,340 a year for five years.
Tobin Lofts was built as a public-private venture in which the college owns the land but a private entity owns and manages the residential and commercial space.
