After reviewing two large pools of candidates for vice president positions at this college, the timeline has been extended to allow more time for individual review.
Originally, the committee wanted to narrow the candidates by Oct. 20, however, after a three-hour session, the committee decided to extend the review period.
“We received amazing candidates,” committee Chair Tammy Perez said, making it a difficult decision.
Perez, chair of the over-arching search committee for two vice presidential positions at this college, said the committee will gather more information and conduct phone interviews before submitting finalists to Dr. Robert Vela, president of this college, by Nov. 7.
Over the next two weeks, the committee will review the candidates’ credentials further because of the importance of the positions, Perez said.
On Oct. 17, the two subcommittees sent their lists to the over-arching committee.
The 118 applicants who applied for vice president for academic success were narrowed to 16 by criminal justice Professor Tiffany Cox; mortuary science Professor Mary Mena; Said Fariabi, chair of math and computer science; and Lauri Metcalf, chair of American Sign Language and interpreter training.
The 138 applicants for the vice president for student success was narrowed to 15 by Emma Mendiola, chair of student development; Chaye Peña, senior coordinator for student success; Martin Ortega, director of admissions and records; Richard Farias, director of student life; and Mona Aldana-Ramirez, director of student success.
Members of the over-arching committee include Dawn Elmore, president of Faculty Senate; Metcalf; Ortega; Karen Elliot, Student Government Association president; Analise Garza-Sengele, Staff Council president; Charles Hunt, coordinator of the management program in the business department; English Professor Patricia Portales; Lisa Alcorta, dean of student success; and Amanda Martin, Adjunct Faculty Council president.
