Resignation of Sen. Leticia Van de Putte and Rep. Mike Villarreal call for a special runoff election.

Voting in the runoff election for state District 26 senator and state District 123 representative will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 17.

Voters are required to present an approved form of photo identification at the polling location site.

Democrats José Menendez and Trey Martinez Fischer face off for State Senator, District 26.

Republican Nunzio Previtera and Democrat Diego Bernal are running against each other for State Representative, District 123.

Sen. Leticia Van de Putte resigned from her position of state senator, District 26, in January to run for mayor of San Antonio.

Lee Nichols, communications director for the Van de Putte, said she’ll be completely out of office by end of this month.

Rep. Mike Villarreal resigned from his state representative position to run for mayor of San Antonio as well.

Both mayoral candidates had been at their position for 15 years before deciding to run for mayor.
