Students can network with professionals in journalism, advertising, television/radio broadcasting and other communications fields at “Meet the Pros” 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Room 218 of the nursing complex.

The San Antonio chapter of the Association for Women in Communications is hosting the event, where professional communicators share insights about succeeding in the industry. This college’s media communications department is co-sponsoring the event.

“This event allows college and university communications students from all across South Texas (to) visit with communications professionals (and) learn what working in those career fields is actually like,” said Kari Bridges, AWC San Antonio president.

Students can view samples of the professionals’ work and learn about expectations and challenges in the various fields, she said.

The evening will comprise three 30-minute sessions where participants sit with a professional from their top three career choices. Professionals who work in advertising, graphic/web design, journalism, marketing, public relations, radio, television and social media will share tips and answer questions.

Admission to “Meet the Pros” is $5 at the door. Students must register before the event by emailing their name, the name of this college and email address to awcmeetthepros@gmail.com.
