With fall semester underway, the office of student life is hosting its annual weeks of welcome at this college. The events help students build a community with each other, Richard Farias, interim director of student life, said.

“This is a great opportunity for students to get engaged with our community on campus,” Farias said. Two weeks of welcome kicked off Monday and runs through Sep. 3.

Monday’s festivities included T-shirt and snack giveaways and a live help desk staffed by the office of technology services

The giveaways continue from 9 a.m.-1p.m. Tuesday in the mall, and the help desk continues from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday in the lobby of Moody Learning Center.

During Wednesday’s Success Zone students will earn raffle tickets to win a gift bag and gift cards to the bookstore.

The Success Zone will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday in the mall area.

“This year we will have a local radio station that will feed live music to this event,” Farias said. KXXM-FM, a rock-pop radio station, will do the live feed.

The Gnome Ranger will celebrate his first birthday with free cake and punch from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday in the Fiesta Room.

From 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 31-Sept.1 the civic engagement center in Room 260 of Loftin Student Center will offer volunteer information along with information on health promotions. A mobile blood bank will be on hand in the mall area for students who want to give blood.

Disability Support Services along with the veterans affairs office on campus will host Get in the Groove with a welcome reception from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 31–Sept. 1 on the first floor of Moody Learning Center.

For those interested in joining a club on campus, a student organization showcase will be from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 2 in the mall area on campus.

SWANS (Services for Women and Non-Traditional Students) will host SWANS at SAC, a welcome reception for women and non-traditional students from 4–6 p.m. Sept. 2 and 9–11 a.m. Sept. 3 in the empowerment center, 703 Howard St. on the corner Evergreen Street.

The male empowerment network will be hosting a pizza party from noon–2 p.m. Sept. 3 in the craft room of Loftin Student Center
