With the recent death of David Mrizek, vice president of college services, this college is in the process of deciding what to do in the interim as the search for a new vice president begins.
President Robert Vela will meet with Mrizek’s staff at 3 p.m. Wednesday to discuss potential interim options for the vacant position.
Vela said he is considering either naming an interim vice president or reassigning Mrizek’s responsibilities to himself and the two other vice presidents, Jothany Blackwood, vice president of academic success, and Lisa Alcorta, interim vice president of student success.
Among Mrizek’s responsibilities at this college were grant administration, institutional research, budget, information technology, construction and facilities.
Vela said if he decides not to name an interim vice president of college services and distribute the responsibilities among remaining administration that this college would still be in line with the rest of the Alamo College’s administration.
Previously, when Mrizek was out sick from mantle cell lymphoma, Vela took care of Mrizek’s responsibilities.
