President Robert Vela will release an announcement regarding the filling of new department chairs Wednesday.

Vela said the college executive team selected faculty to fill 11 of the 12 positions for the fall.

The administration earlier this semester realigned departments, decreasing the number of chair positions from 19 to 12.

Vela told The Ranger he will release a memo to faculty specifying who was selected for the 11 positions and which department they will chair.

The search for the last hire will extend to candidates outside of the college as there wasn’t a selection made from those who applied, he said. He did not say which of the 12 positions remains unfilled.

Dr. Conrad Kruger, dean of arts and sciences, said before the interviews last week if a candidate did not meet the expectations for the new role, the next step was to open the search to include candidates external to the college to find the right fit.

Those interested in the position had until March 21 to submit an application. Krueger said there were 14 applicants, and the chairs were chosen and notified Friday.

Vela said he hopes the search for the last chair will be completed before the fall semester.

The positions were open to all current chairs and faculty, with current chairs having the first-pick option of a program coordinator position if interested.
