Employees got together for breakfast this morning in Scobee Education Center to celebrate a 49 percent contribution rate in the Alamo Colleges Employee Giving Back campaign.

The college’s goal was to get 50 percent participation among full-time employees.

The highest the college reached a few years ago was about 42 percent participation. This year was the highest participation of 49 percent, Vanessa Torres, this college’s director of public relations, said.

“We had the highest percentage in the entire Alamo Colleges district,” Torres said.

President Robert Vela thanked members of the committee who spearheaded the campaign and thanked guests for boosting the participation rate.

This campaign was created to benefit student scholarships and community social organizations through the United Way.

Employees had the choice to donate to a specific scholarship, the entire campaign or any of the United Way charities.

Torres said some of the funds raised will go back to Alamo Colleges students in the form of scholarships from the Alamo Colleges Foundation.

The college’s campaign slogan was “Be somebody’s hero” and the superhero themed event welcomed faculty with food and awards.

SAC, along with the other Alamo Colleges, took part in this campaign August through September.

“Employees could donate cash, check or get a payroll deduction to give a certain amount every paycheck starting in 2017,” Torres said.

Although this campaign awareness ended in September, anyone can donate at any time throughout the year by donating to the Alamo Colleges Foundation.
