Every two seconds in America someone needs blood.
“The need is great and there is never enough blood available for the patients of South Texas. Every blood donation saves three lives,” Al Villalpando, Donor Recruitment Consultant with the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center, said Feb. 5.
Students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to save three lives 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 13 in Room 130 of the nursing and allied health complex.
The blood drive is sponsored by the Texas Student Nurse Association for the first time.
“We are always looking for opportunities to give back to the community, especially in the nursing field. We wanted to make the opportunity to donate easy for students,” President Adam Aguilar TNSA said Wednesday before the drive.
Donors must show a photo ID and fill out an electronic questionnaire.
Then potential donors’ heart rate, temperature, and blood pressure are measured.
Donors must weigh a minimum of 115 pounds.
To select a donation time, go to the blood bank’s website and click sign up to donate.
Walk-ins are welcome 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
All donors will receive a coupon for a dozen doughnuts from Krispy Kreme.
“We have a social responsibly to make sure blood is available for our friends and family; this is an easy way for SAC to help their community,” Villalpondo said.
