Level 1 nursing student Daniella Martino observes Level 1 nursing student Angela Larkin measure air in a vile in Dr. Valerie Noel’s Professional Nursing Competencies class Oct. 4 in the nursing complex. To get the correct amount of pressure in the vile of insulin, students have to measure how much air is in the vile. The nurses were practicing medical administration — oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous and insulin. The nurses were also practicing how to mix long acting and practice insulins for patients. There is a shortage of nurses in Texas, which is also a national issue. In Texas by 2020, the vacancies of nurses will need to be filled. Senior dancer Camelia Watts and other dancers from the San Anotonio Dance Umbrella studio perform a Mexican dance called El Carretero for Hispanic Heritage Month Sept. 20 in the Fiesta Room. Dancers from the San Antonio Dance Umbrella studio performed five Mexican and Spanish dances. The dancers are senior citizens ages 68 to 80. "I've taught them Middle Eastern dances," Chayito Champion, dance instructor, said. "They've all told me learning how to dance has helped them with their memories, motivated them to learn more about dancing and take other dance classes." Photo by Aly Miranda
