Mathematics sophomore Xavier Walton loads a pre-packaged box loaded with meat, produce and dairy into a car trunk at the San Antonio Food Bank pop-up event April 8 at this college. Walton was one of about 20 volunteers who worked in the 90-degree heat at the event. The volunteers distributed about 18,000 pounds of food to 119 families. The distributed items included rice, meatless patties, cucumbers, cabbage, okra milk and cookie dough. "The pop-up events could always use more volunteers, and the more help will be crucial for future events because of the upcoming summertime heat," said Roger Naravez, this college's case assistant navigator from the Food Bank. The next pop-up event will be 2-5 p.m. May 13 in parking Lot 8 of this campus. To volunteer, visit www.alamo.edu/employee-volunteer-form/ or www.alamo.edu/volunteer-form/. Rocky Garza Jr.
