Students who use the ATM machine in Loftin Student Center are in for a big surprise the next time they need some cash on campus.
The ATM, which was in the southeast corner of Loftin across from the Fiesta Room, has been removed.
On Oct. 30, Gil Castillo, associate director of student life, sent a collegewide e-mail, stating that the ATM machine was removed for remodeling of Loftin.
“After construction, we will bring in a new financial organization that will give the students a better deal on the use of the ATM,” Castillo said.
Construction of Loftin is scheduled to be completed in the spring.
Castillo said the new ATM will charge students a service fee of 50 cents whereas the Frost Bank ATM charged students a $1.75 service fee.
Castillo would not comment on who the new financial organization is because they are in the negotiation stage.
Not only does the office of student life hope to have a new ATM machine back running in the spring that will save students money, officials also hope to speak to administrators about adding more machines, Castillo said.
So far suggestions have been to place additional machines in Fletcher Administration Center, the nursing/allied health building, and the bookstore, but for security purposes, there will not be another ATM machine set up, he said.
For now, the nearest ATM students, employees and visitors can use is at the Valero across San Pedro Avenue.
While this may cause an inconvenience for many, Castillo’s best advice to all is, “Bring cash.”
