The basic skills enrichment program is a free program offered to students who were in developmental courses the opportunity for help through a self-paced developmental math skills upgrade.

This program is open to students who have failed a developmental math course more than once and are not in a math class.

Betty Lee Birdsall, director of academic development, said Monday that the nearly 350 students who use the program every semester use a software program called Plato.

The software has been used by the college since the early 1990s and is updated frequently, she said.

Birdsall said the program can prepare students for any level of math. Students move up levels after they complete previous levels.

Students from other Alamo Community College District campuses and area universities will pay $35 for the program.

Eligibility requirements from the Basic Skills Enrichment Program:

• Students who have failed the same developmental math course twice

• Students who need a minimum of review because they had a complete high school math program years ago

• Students who earned a GED and need to receive college level skills

• Students enrolled in a teacher certification program

• Members of the community who want to upgrade their skills before entering college

• Students who need an exit score of 76 on the Accuplacer test for program completion or graduation

The program is offered in the student learning assistance center in Room 726 of Moody Learning Center.
