Staff Council will host a Halloween candy giveaway at 2 p.m. Oct. 26 in Room 120 of the visual arts center and a Thanksgiving drawing at 2 p.m. Nov. 16 in the faculty and staff lounge of Loftin Student Center.
The goal is to get staff together and be involved in the candy giveaway and turkey drawing, President Anelia Luna said. She said members will provide small bags filled with candy to staff and give out raffle tickets for a chance to win a turkey or turkey dinner for a family of four.
Those who don’t want to indulge in candy can give the bags to children, Luna said.
So far, there are 10 dinners and eight frozen turkeys to give away, she said. The college administration donated eight dinners, and two will be donated from Staff Council’s budget, Luna said.
Selrico Services, food vendor for the district, donated five turkeys, and two are from Trader Joe’s, a grocery chain opening its first store in San Antonio, she said. The dinners will include a cooked turkey, one-half gallon of dressing and one quart of gravy.
“People will really come because they want to see if they will win,” Luna said.
Housekeeping staff rarely get to come to functions because they have to clean, Luna said.
