A noon-time audience applauded as students hopped onstage, grabbed a microphone and sang karaoke Monday in the Fiesta Room of Loftin Student Center.

Masquerade DJ provided the equipment including music, professional lights, speakers, microphones and stands in the event sponsored by the office of student life.

Students were able to participate in the karaoke event by signing in with the DJ and requesting their favorite tune to jam to, which included musical pieces from country to rock ’n’ roll to Top 40.

Music sophomore Austin Zettner performed “Touch Me” by The Doors.

This was only his fourth time performing karaoke.

“It’s good practice. I’ve always played guitar on stage but haven’t done much singing on stage yet,” he said.

Zettner participates in Classical Guitar Ensemble, Early Music Ensemble, and plays electric guitar in Jazz Ensemble at this college.

He plays guitar in a heavy metal band off campus called Eternal Requiem.

The office of student life provided free popcorn and candy.

More than 50 students signed up to participate, but because of time restrictions some of the students will have to wait until next week’s karaoke event to perform.

The next karaoke event will be 1:15 p.m.- 2:15 p.m. Feb. 24 in the Fiesta Room.
