The SAC Giving Back team has raised more than $20,000 and has had more than 75 donors since its kickoff Sept. 22. This is in conjunction with the Alamo Colleges’ Employees Giving Back campaign.

According to the district website, the support of this campaign “means that deserving students with genuine needs will have access to a life-changing education provided by the Alamo Colleges Foundation Funds.”

The campaign continues through Oct. 31. This is a districtwide effort, but each campus has its own coordinators.

Richard Farias, director of student life, and Chaye Peña, student success coordinator, are the co-chairs of this college’s campaign.

Farias said in a phone interview Friday that employees can select which agency to donate to.

Employees can choose to donate to a fund, scholarship or program across the district or to the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County.

This college’s campaign had a fundraising event Wednesday to get as many people to donate by Oct. 8, though donations will be accepted through the end of the month when the campaign ends.

Last year, 46 percent of this college’s full-time faculty, administration and staff donated. Farias said this year’s goal is to get 50 percent of employees to donate.

The district has set a goal of 45 percent.

Farias said the team is not concerned with the monetary amount donated, but are instead interested in getting more people to participate.

“We just encourage people to donate what they can,” he said.

All employees from this college who donated through Oct. 8 will have a chance to win a gift basket valued at $160. The winner will be selected Tuesday morning.
