Morning and afternoon classes districtwide are canceled Oct. 29 due to Employee Development Day. Evening classes that start at 5 p.m. and later will still meet.

The EDD planning committee has structured programming into two parts, the general session and the faculty and the staff breakout sessions. The general session is 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the auditorium of McAllister Fine Arts Center.

All faculty and staff are expected to attend the general session to discuss Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges reaffirmation, learning outcomes and the new advising model.

The general session will include opening remarks by Dr. Robert Vela, president of this college, and his presentation on Trim Tab, an awards program to recognize staff.

SACSCOC liaison Dr. Johnnie Rosenauer will discuss the SACSCOC reaffirmation process, and Dr. Frank Solis, director of learning assessment and review, will discuss learning outcomes. Dr. Lisa Alcorta, dean of student success, will explain the new advising model.

The faculty breakout session, from 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., will focus on three tracks: pathways for success, performance excellence and organizational communication.

The staff development session is 1-5 p.m., and staff members will report to their departments for department-specific programming. Staff Council has prepared a full schedule for staff development day, which takes place in the spring.
