The Student Services Fee Advisory Committee for this college will meet at 3 p.m. today in the president’s executive conference room in Room 320 of Fletcher Administration Center to discuss the student groups that have applied for activity fee funding.
The committee formerly was known as the Student Activity Fee Committee and still listed that way on minutes from the Feb. 5 meeting.
Richard Farias, director of student life, said the groups include Asian Pop Society, Art Guild, Kinesiology Club and Club Amar.”
According to the committee’s page at www.alamo.edu/main.aspx?id=39056,
the committee is group of five student plus four student alternates and four faculty members.
Once a year, the president of this college appoints members and the committee votes on how the student activity fee budget will be used.
Every month the group meets to reserve “a pot of money” from the budget for student clubs and organizations for nonacademic student activities, Farias said.
According to the budget, last updated Wednesday, the committee has $75,000 designated for the 2014–15.
The committee received applications totaling $60,000 from May 2014 to February 2015.
The budget also listed 12 SAC Student Club and Organization Success Benchmarks. Every club is eligible to receive $250 for completing all benchmarks.
Benchmarks include updating club information on Orgsync, sending an officer or representative to an Inter-Club Council Meeting, completing at least three on-campus fundraisers.
The 12thh benchmark is to submit a funding request to the committee to receive the award.
Each semester for every credit hour students are registered, they are charged a student activity fee of $1, so those registered for 12 credit hours will be charged $12.
Farias said the group changed its name from the Student Activity Fee Committee to the Student Services Fee Advisory Committee in 2009, which is reflected in the board policy, and online at www.alamo.edu/main.aspx?id=39056 but not on the meeting minutes or the Orgsync page.
Farias said he is working on making the meeting minutes and agendas available to the public by fall 2015.
For more information, call Farias at 210-486-0125 or visit https://orgsync.com/25432/chapter and click on the “Events” tab for meeting dates and the “Forms” tab for the latest Student Activity Fee application.
All applications are due two weeks before the meeting. Meetings are the first Thursday of every month.
Applications are available in Orgsync.
