The office of student life will host a joint summer orientation session for first-time college students at 7:30 a.m. May 2 in the Fiesta Room of Loftin Student Center.

The deadline for registration in OrgSync is April 26.

Space is limited for the event, so the office encourages students to sign up as soon as possible.

Fall orientation begins May 5, with several sessions through the summer.

Fall Start II orientation begins Aug. 18, and Fall Flex II Sept. 15.

The deadline to register for all orientation sessions is six days prior.

Orientation is mandatory for all first-time college students and must be completed to register for classes.

Fifteen students attended the initial summer orientation session April 7.

Students had to RSVP by April 14 on the office of student life’s OrgSync page at www.orgsync.com/25432/chapter for a session at 7:30 a.m. April 21 in the Fiesta Room of Loftin.

By Monday, 13 prospective summer students had already reserved a spot on the event’s OrgSync page.

“It’s important for students to get that first welcome, know that they’re important to the school,” student success Coordinator Mark Bigelow said.

Students need to know what is expected of them, Bigelow said.

Topics will include “Preparing for Your Academic Journey” and “Beyond the Classroom: Student Engagement.”

The event will offer a tour of the campus and group advising.

Students are required to stay for the entire seven-hour event.

Before students attend orientation, they must complete their ApplyTexas application, submit transcripts, present proof of a bacterial meningitis vaccination and complete the Alamo Enroll modules.

If applicable, some students will have to complete testing requirements and receive post-assessment advising before attending an orientation session.

The orientation has a cap of 72 people, and Bigelow said he hopes to see 20, 30 or more future students.

For registration, log on to Orgsync. For more information, call Mark Bigelow in student life at 210-486-0125.
