Improv, backstage work and finding the sweet spot of the spotlight are just a few things high school students will experience this summer with the fine arts department’s annual summer camp at this college.
Students from San Antonio area high schools will learn how to perform and will put on a show the week of July 12-18. Registration has already begun and will continue through June 30 when a deposit of $40 is due.
“This has been a wonderful experience for the high schoolers, the SAC faculty and staff and the SAC students who participate,” theater Instructor Paula Rodriguez said. “Not to mention it’s great recruitment for San Antonio College.”
This college has been holding the program for local high school students for 12 years now.
It started as a way “to offer San Antonio area students an affordable theater camp, to experience theater and to work with SAC faculty and students,” Rodriguez said.
The camp is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. all week.
Tuition and fees are $80, which includes T-shirts, costumes, food and other necessities. Rodriguez said it’s an affordable opportunity compared with similar camps, such as Performing Arts San Antonio, which costs $250-$350 for four days to two weeks.
Registration is capped at 50 students.
This college’s theater students can talk to Rodriguez about helping out with the camp.
