With final exams around the corner, it’s easy to forget about textbook rental agreements.

The bookstore on campus has no mercy for late returns, so students should not miss the Dec. 15 rental check-in deadline for all rented textbooks this fall.
Those who do must pay the entire retail price of the book, bookstore manager Melvin Johnson said.
“They sign a rental agreement that states the consequences for late rental returns,” Johnson said.
The bookstore also will charge a non-return fee as well as a processing fee to the late student’s account, and the student will then own the book.
All Alamo Colleges exercise the same rental agreement policies for students, he said.
This fall, hours for all Alamo Colleges bookstores are 7:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Bookstores are closed Saturday and Sunday.
This college’s bookstore is located in the lower level of Loftin Student Center.
The campus bookstore reminds students of the return date with stickers on the front covers of rented textbooks and frequent email reminders.
The deadline is also printed on the receipt received the day of the rental.
“Be responsible and turn in the books you check out,” Johnson said.
“There is a short grace period we give students, but once the collateral is charged the book is theirs,” Johnson said.
Students interested in selling their textbooks should inquire about the book buyback option. The bookstore will examine the textbook and, depending on availability and the condition of the book, can offer up to 50 percent of the original price of the book.
L&M Bookstore, 1716 N. Main Ave., adheres to the same late return policy as the campus bookstore since they are both contracted under the same book collection agency.
L&M requires rented textbooks for this fall to be turned in on or before Dec. 19.
Fall hours of operations for L&M include 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
All L&M bookstores are closed Saturday and Sunday.
There will be no extended hours of operation during finals week this semester for the bookstores.
