The monthly Plática seminar sponsored by SAC Men Empowerment Network will feature a talk by Tommy Calvert, County commissioner for Precinct 4, 12:30-2 p.m. Feb. 20 in Room 218 of the nursing and allied health complex.
Calvert is the first and youngest African-American Bexar County commissioner.
“Plática” is the Spanish word for “conversation.”
Student success specialist Domingo Figueroa and student success coordinator Courtney Blackwell organized this month’s Plática in collaboration with the Black History Month Committee.
“We chose him (Calvert) as a model of positive influence,” Figueroa said Feb. 13.
President Robert Vela will give opening remarks, then Calvert will talk about his road to success and answer questions.
“All students and staff are welcome. SACMEN is not exclusive to men of color,” Blackwell said.
