Re: “Unanimous vote removes Ranger mascot” posted July 15:
At first, I did not pay much attention to the story of removing the mascot for San Antonio College, but after reading about the Texas Rangers’ racist history, I could not agree more with the decision to remove the ranger mascot.
The unfortunate and ugly truth that surrounds the Rangers’ history cannot be ignored, and I am truly surprised that the mascot wasn’t removed sooner.
Upon receiving the unanimous decision to remove the historical image, the president of the college, Dr. Robert Vela, said “This is a historic day!”
I find this statement to be empowering and can’t wait to see what our new mascot will be.
