Chief Don Adams encourages students to program numbers for emergencies into phones.

Emergency phone number signs posted in Loftin Student Center have the Alamo College Police Department’s emergency number listed incorrectly as 222-0911.
The signs were posted at the north and east entrances of the building.
The correct number for emergency calls is 210-485-0911.
The 222-0911 phone numbers connects callers with police dispatch.
The phone number was changed almost two years ago in an effort to get all phone numbers under a 485 or 486 prefix, Chief Don Adams said today.
The police department didn’t want people to have to remember various prefixes, he said.
David Mrizek, vice president of college services, was not aware of any yellow signs being posted in Lofton.
Usually, facilities does not post signage by taping the information to a window, Mrizek said.
“It could very well have been the people in the building,” he said.
Mrizek plans to have the signs removed.
Adams said all students should program the emergency and nonemergency number into their phones for quicker access.
“Seconds do count,” he said. “That time could be the difference between life and death. You just never know when you’re going to need us.”
The nonemergency number for the police department dispatch is 210-485-0099.
