Veterans Day specials honor service and sacrifice.

In honor of duty performed in the service of the United States, many area restaurants offer free meals or other discounts on Veterans Day to military personnel or veterans with valid military or veterans ID.

Applebee’s: free signature thank you meal

Bar Louie: a free appetizer or entrée

BJ’s Restaurant and Ale House: complimentary lunch entrée or a one-topping mini deep dish or individual hand-tossed pizza

California Pizza Kitchen: any pizza for dine-in only

Denny’s: free all-you-can-eat pancakes

Fox and Hound Tavern: a free burger

Hooter’s: a free meal up to $10.99 with the purchase of any drink

Hurricane Grill and Wings: a non-alcoholic beverage and meal from a select menu

Krispy Kreme: a free doughnut and coffee while in uniform or with proof of service

Little Caesar’s Pizza: a free order of Crazy Bread

Longhorn Steakhouse: an appetizer from a list of 10 options

Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt: a free 6-ounce frozen yogurt with a military ID or dressed in uniform.

Olive Garden: a free meal from a special menu. Also, in honor of Military Appreciation Month, active duty military personnel and their families get 10 percent off all November.

Outback Steakhouse: a free Bloomin’ Onion and beverage along with 10 percent off each meal

Paciugo Gelato Caffé: a free 12-oz. Gelatte

Red Lobster: a free Texas Tonion appetizer and non-alcoholic beverage through Thursday

Red Robin: a free Tavern Double Burger and bottomless steak fries

Shoney’s: free Shoney’s All-American Burger

Spaghetti Warehouse: With a buy-one, get-one-free coupon, guests are encouraged to take a veteran out to eat one original spaghetti entrée or 15-layer lasagna.

Starbucks: All veterans, active duty military and spouse will get a free tall coffee with proof of military service.

Texas Roadhouse: a free lunch, including sides and beverage from a special lunch menu 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Texas Land and Cattle: All veterans, active duty and reserve military will receive a free appetizer.

TGI Fridays: a free lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tony Roma’s: a free 6-ounce sirloin entrée

Travel Centers of America: All CDL drivers who are veterans or active duty eat free.

Twin Peaks: eat free

Wingstop: a free six-piece boneless combo or three-piece boneless strip combo
